Name change: West Lake --> The Locusts

Winona has 3 courses: The Woods, The Willows, and West Lake.

My proposition is simple. Change the name of West Lake to The Locusts.

The Willows is named for 2 trees that mark the point of departure at hole #1.

Locust trees are a huge part of the current West Lake course. Huge locust trees, which aren't all that common, shield the basket on hole #1, and line the pro tee fairway on hole #3. On hole #5, where you shoot across toward the lake, again, a huge locust protects the pin. And lastly, the big tree in the middle of fairway # 9 is a locust.

The name would bring it into consistency with the other courses of Winona which emphasize wood or tree variety.

Just a thought.

  • Ha ha, when I first read this, I thought you were talking about the grasshoppers

I have always known it as the west lake or Huff street course.  Anyone else have an opinion?

  • i like the idea of a name change for the west lake course because it might make more people play the course.

  • It certainly has more panache than the generic "West Lake." I find it defines the course much more than the Willows does, from a player perspective.

    Thanks for your comment.
